succulent ❁

today is a holiday so that's why i decided to write this to update you on what's been going on in the world of miki.

so about a week ago, i finally transferred out of my old school to my current one now. i'm doing my ib diploma there which is sort of like a pre-u program but technically i'm still in high school and considered as a high school student. i'm doing high level english language and literature, design technology, and visual arts. as for my standard level subjects, i'm choosing to do business management, math studies, and mandarin. i'm in the summer school program at the moment and i've only met my theory of knowledge and design tech teacher who used to be a professional chef in the u.k. for twelve years and was also a food nutritionist. he owned his own restaurant and published his own cookbook. he was also on a program for the bbc once. he's really cute. not in the looks type of way! i mean his actions and the way he acts is really cute. i enjoy his class because it was really interactive and fun. he was supposed to teach my class how to make bread today but there wasn't any school today so that didn't happen. it's sort of a first time that i'm disappointed at how there isn't any school so you can get the idea of how much i enjoy my new school.

i spent my day today by waking up early and going to have breakfast at this place called tommy la baker which has fantastic bread. i had a croissant and an apricot and pistachio sourdough bun with a nice cup of hot chocolate.

after that, i went plant shopping with my dad because i wanted to get some cute little pot plants for my room. i roughly wanted a little cactus or succulent but all the choices were so pretty that i had trouble choosing only just two.

in the end, i got a cute little cacti and a succulent that was in a pretty pink pot. i plan on naming them but i still haven't decided on what to name them. so far i'm thinking of naming the succulent tash and the cacti beansie. (^_^)☆

also i went shopping and bought three new pieces of clothing from m.n.g. which were a white blouse, black leather skirt, and a ivory knitted pullover sweater. i've been wanting a nice leather skirt for ages and now i've finally got one. plus, the white blouse goes great with the skirt. the sweater was just really comfy and i figured that i could always use an extra sweater for school. there's no such thing as too many sweaters in my book *wink wink*

so that's all I did for today. i'd say that it was pretty productive. as for what good food i've been having lately, i just recently went to this place called breadfruits that serves 100% organic food last saturday. they also sell organic bread and fruits (therefore the name breadfruits). i had their salmon breakfast platter which had smoked salmon, scrambled eggs, sourdough bread, and salad with avocados and cherry tomatoes. the meal came with black coffee and their juice of the day which was pineapple and orange juice. the whole meal was great. the eggs were perfectly cooked and so was the salmon. the vegetables were nice and fresh. the only thing that could use some improvement was the sourdough bread but other than that, everything was great and on point. even the juice and the coffee.

that's all for now i guess. at least there's school tomorrow which i'm quite looking forward to. oh, and i'll be taking my first driving lesson this friday! soon i'll be able to drive and pull over in front of my old school and quote mean girls by saying to tracia and joyce "GET IN LOSERS WE'RE GOING SHOPPING!" it's one of the main reasons why i want to be able to drive as soon as possible. hahaha.

anyhow,if you read all this, i hope you had a great day (^_^)☆

love love love

most of my blog posts lately have been about me ranting about certain things so i'm trying to make this one full of positive vibes for a change(^_^)

things have been pretty good for me lately. on monday i finally received my dress that i ordered online from romwe  (which is my new favourite online store) and it looked as great as it did on the website. the quality is fantastic and it comes with its own zip lock bag for if you're travelling and you can exchange or refund it if the product has any issues eg. size being too small/large or too long/short. it's just this absolutely adorable light powder blue dress with eye prints and a really cute little turtleneck. if you've read one of my previous posts, i mentioned that this dress was in my fashion bucketlist and i'm so happy to finally cross it out. i wore it yesterday when i was out with my parents and styled it with my oversized denim jacket which was tied around my waist and my white chunky high heeled sneakers that i got from japan during my holiday there. i used my studded faux leather backpack but you can't really see it so i'll just show it some other time.

extremely adorable dress from romwe *squeelsssss*

they're kinda like creepers but at the same time not?????
i don'treally know what they're called.

i thought that i looked hella cute and i even did a little make up but just a simple cat eye look. nothing much.

cat eye alexa chung style ( ^ _ ^ )

i don't like the lines to be too thick because it makes my eyes look smaller and they're already as small as it is on their own. do excuse my eyebags. insomniac problems one-o-one.

so while i was out with my parents, i had lunch at this place called hakata ippudo which is some japanese restaurant that's pretty famous for their pork ramen. i ordered the miso pork ramen and oh my god it was so good! definitely food for the soul and perfect for a cold rainy day
(^ν^)

their salmon avocado bacon rolls were good too and not to mention, good presentation as well as taste.

and after that i had green tea ice cream which was wonderful.

i've done a little redecorating for my room too and i really like how it looks. it's not much. just one corner of my room but i think it looks great. i'll planning on doing more in the future.

the black picture is a birthday present from tracia that she drew for me. do ignore the weird patch of white light it's just my camera's stupid flash.

this week has been very good to me and a lot has happened. i also visited an art gallery the day before and saw many beautiful paintings done by talented locals. this one was my favorite because of the beautiful meaning behind it.

the rest of the paintings are on my instagram account (link at the bottom of the page). okay, i'm gonna sign off now because i wouldn't wanna bore you with my life so till then xx

remotely interesting life update

you could say that a lot happens in my life although i beg to differ. my life is pretty boring. it pales in comparison with other people's. so here i am to maybe give all of you an update on my remotely interesting life.

lately i've been trying to be healthier because not only would it help me to lose weight but it would also make my body more energized and less tired all the time. the main reason for becoming healthier is to lose weight and become more fit and i realized that eating healthy is more effective than starving myself all the time like i used to. starving yourself slows down your metabolic rate however eating healthier foods speeds it up. a higher metabolic rate helps you burn fat faster so that's what i'm aiming for.

so to boost my metabolism, i've made some changes in my diet. i've been eating similar meals almost every single day. they're pretty much the same things which are parsley and garlic pasta with an egg fried in olive oil, salmon sautéed in olive oil with green beans, and tomato basil pasta with button mushrooms. i eat pretty much these same meals over and over again. i've also cut down on carbs especially at night so i mostly just eat the salmon with green beans for dinner or blend some fruits into juice if i want something lighter. some of my favorite juices are the banana, apple and pineapple smoothie, papaya and pineapple, and strawberry, pineapple and banana. my daily meals mainly consist of olive oil and fibre. the olive oil helps keep my hair healthy and growing fast while the fibre keeps my bowels clean.

also i've been drinking lemon water instead of regular water to help me detox. i also excercise regularly by jogging or going for a walk. it's not much but at least it's something. here are selfies that i took with a neighborhood cactus on one of my walks.

nowadays my snacks are much healthier too. i've been bringing apples to school for my recess rather than the greasy but heavenly delicious cafeteria food. i also snack on cucumbers. i've always loved cucumbers anyway so it's no big deal. i even used to use cucumber conditioner hahahha.

i've been trying to cook some new recipes too. just yesterday i made sour cream and salmon pasta. it was just as good as i expected and i might make some again on monday to bring to school for recess and to share with my friends.

i still have cheat days every once in a while when i snack on maltesers and eat really buttery delicious breakfast food and johnny rockets.

feelings wise, i realize that i kind of feel a little more on the emotional side lately? i'm not sure why that is but sometimes i feel like people don't really notice that i'm more emotional than usual. i know it's selfish for me to wish that people were more aware of my feelings but i guess i'm just extremely bitter and selfish. i just hope things get better soon. in the meantime, i hope things are good for everyone else too.

where's the maple syrup and pancakes?

O' CANADA!

the land of pancakes and maple syrup with the most polite people that you can find.

so yesterday, i attended sunway international school's first ever "international understanding day" (aka IU day) held by their interact club. this is the second IU day that i've attended. the first one was an IU day celebration by my own school last year with the theme life in technicolor. it was pretty enjoyable for a first time but it wasn't as good as sunway's IU day celebration.

so being a school that follows the canadian education system, their IU day theme was o' canada. i was excited to go because i've heard that the people there are very fun and one of my friends, amanda — whom i met via the wonderful and glorious internet — has been sharing information about the event and it looked very exciting. another reason why i wanted to attend was because i wanted to meet amanda for the first time in person. and let me just say that the girl's hair (which is bright purple and pink) is brighter than my future.

i didn't attend the celebration alone. in fact I went with two of my friends that live in the same neighborhood as me. wei lyn and shyne-ni (pronounced as sheh ni) it was their first ever IU day attended and it seems that they had quite a fun time as much as i did.

the performances were great and the mc's were hilarious especially one of them named denzel who was as wild and loud as his long afro tied into a ponytail. him and the other mc (rahul) started of the celebration with the both of them entering the stage while singing a high school musical song. the performances were pretty unexpected too. most of them were singing performances but there were also cheerleading and poetry reading which was different from your usual stage acts. there was even a flash mob that occurred which completely took all of us by surprise. random people started standing on their chairs when the music went off and ran onto the stage and started dancing.

the majority of the students there were korean. even the group of girls sitting in front of us were koreans. there were so many koreans there that i thought to myself "damn am i in sunway or am i in korea?"

other than the performances, the food they provided there was incredible too. did you know that the hawaiian pizza despite its name was originally created in canada? well now you do. and did you know that poutine is a french canadian dish that is  made of french fries with gravy and cheese and it is also heavenly delicious. it was the first time eating poutine and now i absolutely love it ♡ it's a definite must try for all you who don't know it's delicious cheesy and gravy coated goodness.

sadly i didn't get to have any pancakes with maple syrup because they ran out but i did get loads of poutine and pizza which made up for it ☻ overall a great event and i will definitely come back again for any of their future events. i'll end this blog post here with some other pictures we took at the event. till then, au revoir! xx

i'm not dead yet

as you can tell from the title,

i'm not dead yet!

it's clearly been a while since i've blogged because i've been so busy these past few months. balancing off school and a social life is so hard i don't even know how some people do it like, jesus christ, do you practice black magic or something?

anyway back to things, i've been feeling a lot better than how i was feeling from my last post so, yeah. i guess that's good. i've been writing on my wattpad account but not very often because i barely have the time. in case you all didn't know, wattpad is a website for aspiring authors to share their work and read stories by other people too. i enjoy writing but i don't think i would choose to become a writer. i've always wanted to be a graphic designer since i was nine and my dream is to study graphic designing in new york city. i know that it won't be easy but i'm willing to do whatever it takes to achieve that dream. i might take writing as my second major but it's still too early to decide. i'll still keep that option open though ☺

if anyone is interested in checking out my wattpad, just click here. i'd really appreciate it if you could read my story "the writer" and tell me what you think.

other than wattpad, i've also been active on other social media sites like twitter and tumblr. i don't think i can live without both of them especially my tumblr. tumblr is my life, okay? if you wanna follow me on tumblr click here. i run a fashion//vogue tumblr blog ♡

i also make playlists on 8tracks. i even made a new one today called "get your skates and lets go". i made the cover myself. give it a listen and tell me what you think. i like making 8tracks mixes but the only problem is that they take too much time to make. my original plan was to make two today but my first one already took about two hours just to finish so i guess maybe next time instead.

in the non internet world,

i've been reading some new books lately instead of just rereading my old favourites. previously before school reopened, i finished reading the divergent trilogy and the last book, allegiant, killed me. and when i say kill, i mean that the book literally ripped my heart out and stabbed it 2000 times. but it was a really good book despite all the heartbreak that made me cry so hard until my mom had to come check on me in the middle of the night because she said that she heard animal noises. it was SO good that i had a book hangover for months just because of it and i couldn't really focus on reading any other book because my mind kept wandering back to allegiant. but i got over it now so yay!

i read quite a few books so far this year. two by haruki murakami that were definitely worth mentioning here.

my favourite is "kafka on the shore". it's honestly one of the best books that i've read in a long time. even better than "the perks of being a wallflower" although i wasn't fully comfortable reading it because of the smut (which there was a hell a lot of it). i've been wanting to read murakami's works for a long time because i've heard people complimenting him on his work and he didn't disappoint at all. the way he writes is incredible and his story lines aren't predictable at all and cliche which is just the type of things that i like in a story.

he uses a lot of metaphors with deep meaning that leave you mind blown. he writes with perfect description and when you read his writing, you can actually feel yourself transported into the story. it's perfect and i don't regret a thing. i rate it a 10/10 because perfection.

i'm currently reading "norwegian wood" at the moment. the writing is just as good but the story isn't really as unique as "kafka on the shore" but it's still good. there aren't many natural english writers that can even write as well as haruki murakami who writes in japanese and has his stories translated so i'm really impressed.

after i'm done with "norwegian wood", i'm planning on reading "blind woman, sleeping willow" next and maybe buy "the wind up bird chronicle" that is also by him. you can say that i'm clearly a huge fan of his work now.

other than reading, i've also been eating a lot but hey, what's new? hahaha. i love good food and i love to eat it. i've been mega obsessed with avocados lately because i swear they're so good. i've been bringing one to school everyday. people always look at me but whatever, i don't care. they're just jelly because i have a delicious avocado and they don't. and i've been bringing pastries from bakeries to school every day too. just the other day i had a wonderful cream puff from komugi bakery and i swear i saw the face of god when i took the first bite and when the cream came oozing out. it wasn't as good as the ones that i had when in japan but close enough.

and i can tell that i'm definitely going to look like a ball soon because of all this sweet food that i've been eating. just like how the other day i had spanish food for dinner at estilos with my family and then right after had dessert at salon du chocalat where we had a brownie crepe and molten chocolate lava cake with vanilla ice cream.

would you look at all the calories
it's okay though... i go jogging every saturday now so i guess it's okay to binge out just this once haha.

well i guess that's all for now so bye xx

PS.   listen to ellie goulding's cover of all i want by kodaline because it's fucking beautiful and if you haven't heard it yet then you're clearly missing out, child.
